Today, we’re talking about an old favorite: Pottery Barn.

Meet the Brand: Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids, and PB Teen
Pottery Barn was founded in 1949, and today it is part of the Williams-Sonoma, Inc. family of brands. The brand was first created when brothers Paul and Morris Secon discovered three barns full of pottery in upstate New York and built up a chain of stores selling their wares. (This is where the name Pottery Barn comes from, in case you’ve ever wondered!) Today, Pottery Barn creates high-end home furnishings in American updated-traditional style. Within the brand, you’ll find different furniture and decor collections that showcase the breadth of looks they create—including some mid-century-inspired and rustic design ideas.
Under the Pottery Barn umbrella, you’ll also find Pottery Barn Kids and Pottery Barn Teen (or, PB Teen). Pottery Barn Kids was established in 1999 by two moms who wanted to create safe and stylish furniture for their children. This line of kids room furniture caters to the needs of children and focuses on functionality. But their pieces are also dedicated to both furniture and environmental safety. This line features pieces for babies up through school-aged kids—from cribs to kids desks, playroom furniture, toys, and more. PB Teen was founded a few years later, in 2003, with a focus on trendy, quality furniture for preeteen bedrooms up through college dorm rooms. Their product lines are teen-focused to help create spaces that teens will love, with style that parents will approve of.

What They’re Known For
Pottery Barn is known for creating very comfortable and livable furniture. They have a high-end style but are built for everyday living, and have proved to be a great option for families with kids and pets. Though mass produced, they have a rustic, homey quality that feels personalized and spans interior design styles. But they don’t just do furniture. They’re also known for quality bedding and bath products like duvet covers, sheets, towels, and more. And their large retail stores are set up in a way to give you an immersive experience with their products while you shop.
Pottery Barn Kids is known for creating customizable items for kids to make pieces special for each individual child—including monograms and many color options. They’re also known for creating stylish furniture that can grow up with your child. Pottery Barn Kids desks and chairs are perfect for those who are homeschooling or doing distance learning! PB Teen is known for their hip and trendy furniture decor, including their pop culture collections. They’re probably most well-known for their popular Pottery Barn Teen Harry Potter collection! PB Teen creates solutions-based furniture for studying and organization (we love Pottery Barn Teen desks!), resulting in multifunctional pieces for teens. But they also make fun lounge furniture, quality bedding, and quirky decor and accessories that allows a teen to really personalize their space.

Why We Love Them
All three brands under the Pottery Barn umbrella create quality items that are built to last, and designed in a timeless style. We love how many options they have for upholstery and materials, so you can truly customize your pieces. Their staple furniture feels homey and traditional—but they also release new and trendy collections annually to keep things fresh. So, while you know what aesthetic to expect from Pottery Barn, with these collections you’ll never get bored with their selections!
