The Backstory

When Yates & Liz bought a private farmhouse atop Old Forge Mountain in the Blue Ridge Mountains, they did so with the vision of creating a beautiful vacation rental retreat where guests could hunker down and relax. The house was entirely empty and they needed help coming up with a design that would ensure the interior of the house was as beautiful as its scenic surroundings.

“It was important to us that the entire house be designed all at once because we wanted a cohesive look for the entire space instead of piecemeal looks for the individual spaces that wouldn’t flow together.”

The Design Dilemma

Yates & Liz knew from the beginning that they needed an expert eye to help them achieve the look and feel they wanted for thier farmhouse.

“The space was super large and dated. It easily could have become a hodgepodge mess even with lots of love and great intentions. Getting help from a professional designer was so important.”

Designer insight:

“From the beginning, I knew Yates & Liz wanted the space to function as a vacation rental, so the goal was to make every room cohesive but still fun and inviting. The biggest challenge (though, a really fun one!) was making sure each room had a unique look and feel but that they all still visually worked together as a cohesive whole.” –Becky

The Modsy Moment

When the couple discovered Modsy, they knew they’d found the answer to their design conundrum. Bundling each room into the same project and collaborating with the same designer was exactly what he needed to achieve a cohesive look for his entire farmhouse.

“Having the ability to see designs for each room before making purchases was key. This helped us feel confident that, as we purchased pieces, they would fit a cohesive vision for the whole house.”

How Modsy Helped Yates & Liz

Yates & Liz loved that their designer, Becky, was not only able to make each room in the house work together but also that she took their ideas in new directions that they wouldn’t have thought of alone.

“Once we saw my designer’s plan, we started getting really excited about bringing it to life. We loved that we were able to contribute ideas—like using a green sofa in the main living space—and our designer was able to incorporate them and take the idea to the next level.”

Designer Insights:

“Layering colors and textures is key when you want a cozy, lived in, yet very unique and interesting space. For Yates & Liz’s house, I focused on artfully mixing colors, textures, and materials in a way that made the spaces feel intentional. And speaking of color—the green sofa is one of my favorite parts of the whole design. That, paired with a lot of natural textures in accent chairs and fun pops of colors in rugs is what stole the show!” –Becky

The Real Results

Yates & Liz ended up with an upscale private farmhouse rental with a mid-century-meets-cozy vibe. The house’s relaxed and fun atmosphere makes it easy for guests to soak in the bucolic Blue Ridge Mountains scenery. If you ever find yourself staying there, you’ll have the option of visiting the many nearby towns, but you may find it hard to leave this charming mountain retreat.

“We’re thrilled with how everything turned out. It’s better than we could have imagined, and working with our Modsy designer, Becky, on such a large project helped us achieve what we never could have done on our own.”

Designer Insights:

“One thing I love about working at Modsy is  having the opportunity to work on so many different types of spaces. Yates’ project was exciting because he wanted his rental to be full of fun, vibrant, and cozy vibes, and we were able to make that happen—making each room feel unique while keeping a cohesive vision for the whole house!” –Becky

My Modsy Story: How I Filled My House with Cozy Curated Style

Without the curatorial skills to create the cozy feel she wanted for her home Deana was left with an empty house and no idea where to get started.

Read on to learn how she filled her empty house with designs she loves and get key insights from the Modsy designer that brought her space together.

headshot of modsy customer

Homeowner: Deana

Room: Whole House

My Style: Rustic Warmth

The Backstory

Deana loves home decorating shows and feels passionate about design. But, like many people, when it came to putting together a new home, she found herself stooped.

“I’m a big fan of HGTV, and I always have strong opinions on every space they do. I’ll either say, “OMG, I love that,” or “ew no, that’s gross,” but I never react impartially to any design. That said, I’m not a decorator, so I’m sure you can imagine that when my husband and I moved from a 425 square ft apartment to a 2,600 square foot house with no furniture, I didn’t know where to start.”

The Design Dilemma

Deana knew 2 things at the outset of her design journey. 1 she had trouble putting a space together alone, and 2 she’d know a good design when she saw it but she needed some outside help to get started. Determined to find a great design for her new home, she started researching online design.

“I’ve never been a natural at getting the home look I am going for. For example, I like a cozy vibe in my spaces, so I tend to overcrowd rooms when I design them on my own.”

“I’ve never been a natural at getting the home look I am going for. For example, I like a cozy vibe in my spaces, so I tend to overcrowd rooms when I design them on my own. But for my new home, I knew I wanted something that felt curated but cozy without being crowded. So I started looking for help online.

My search for interior design services took me to a Facebook group. People there raved about Modsy. After deliberating for a while, I decided to purchase 6 rooms.”

Designer Insights:

“Deana was having trouble selecting and coordinating the right items for her home to create a cohesive look. So I helped her “try on” many different options for her rooms and showed her various wall colors to land on the perfect style for her home.” –Cassandra, Deana’s Modsy Designer

The Modsy Moment

Once she had sent all her Modsy project details, Deana was very excited to see the results.

“I couldn’t picture how things should look on my own. But, when I saw the designs, I was in love!”

“I’ll be honest, I was a little nervous waiting for my Modsy designs to come back. I just wasn’t sure they’d be able to deliver on all my hopes for the space, especially when I couldn’t picture how things should look on my own. But, when I saw the designs, I was in love! They were exactly what I had asked for but couldn’t visualize on my own. I began ordering furniture almost immediately.”

Designer Insights:

“Deana has a really cozy personal style, and I kept that in mind when putting all her rooms together. I wanted to elevate that coziness with some more traditional foundational furniture in each space to really help create a cohesive and inviting feel to her whole home.

For example, in her living room, the sofa and love-seat are from the same Crate & Barrel set. They add a touch of formality to the room, but the armchairs and poufs feel more fun and casual. Together these items create a look that elevates the space without making it feel stuffy.” –Cassandra, Deana’s Modsy Designer

The Real Results

Now that Deana has used Modsy she’s having a real HGTV “OMG I love that” moment of her own.

“I loved my entire Modsy experience, I especially love the design of my bedroom vanity area. My designer used a lovely desk with lots of storage, a cozy highback chair, and a beautiful mirror with mother-of-pearl inlay to bring the space together.”

“I loved my entire Modsy experience, I especially love the design of my bedroom vanity area. My entire life, I’ve gotten ready hunched over a mirror in the corner of my room, and I’ve never had a dedicated space just for getting ready. My designer used a lovely desk with lots of storage, a cozy highback chair, and a beautiful mirror with mother-of-pearl inlay to bring the space together. (I’m a huge fan of pearls, so I was delighted that they included the mirror–it is SO beautiful.) Having a cozy and pampering space like this is incredibly wonderful. It really epitomizes how my whole house feels after using Modsy–like a home.”

Designer Insights:

“It was truly such a pleasure bringing this space together for Deana. It’s wonderful knowing she gets as much joy out of living in her space as I did helping her create it.” –Cassandra, Deana’s Modsy Designer

Modsy Story: How I Got Help Designing a Restful Bedroom Haven

Customer Story

Homeowner: Koula B.  Voice over artist

Location: Aledo, TX

Rooms: Master Bedroom

Her Style: Chic Collector

before photo of bedroom

The Backstory

My husband and I have two sets of twins under the age of two, so to say life is a bit hectic is an understatement!  We had just built a new home, so we decided we needed to decorate the master bedroom first. In our previous home, we decorated the rest of the house and never got around to finishing the master bedroom because our first set of twins arrived, and life got much busier! There were always other things to do or spend our money on. Also, our cat had shredded our previous headboard, so we knew we needed some new furniture anyway.

We wanted our master bedroom to be our sanctuary and between the twins and the cat, we were due a bit of tranquility. However, during the building process, we found out we were expecting our second set of twins. At that point, I was adamant our bedroom would be decorated before the babies arrived, as I would definitely need a peaceful place to grab a few minutes rest now and again!

Customer Story

The Design Dilemma

Since we were building our house, the room was a blank slate—but that actually made it overwhelming, and I wasn’t sure where to start. I generally like colorful, vibrant hues but thought those might be overwhelming in a bedroom. I wasn’t sure how to strike the balance of what I naturally gravitate toward while still making our bedroom a restful place. On top of that, I had one set of twins and was pregnant with another set, so I really didn’t have the bandwidth to think about how to design our master bedroom.

I wasn’t sure how to strike the balance of what I naturally gravitate toward while still making our bedroom a restful place.

Customer StoryThe Modsy Moment

We used Modsy at our previous home to plan the nursery for our first set of twins. There’s so much I appreciate about Modsy—the 3D renderings, being able to switch out items, the price point! I had such a good experience picking out the layout and decor of the nursery. So, when it came to designing our master bedroom, I was excited to work with a Modsy designer again.

Customer StoryHow Modsy Helped Koula

Our designer helped us land on a layout we love and they picked out furniture that’s beautiful and fits in our space. But I did want to adjust the color palette a bit after getting our initial designs. So, I had a call with my designer, she understood what I wanted right away, and the next design she sent me was perfect, and the one we ended up using.

Customer StoryThe Real Results

I love my master bedroom design. It is exactly the haven I need to escape from the madness of having two sets of twins under the age of two. This space is beautiful and helps remind me of the “me” I was before I was a mom. Our master bedroom isn’t generally a room that other people see, but I really enjoy spending time in my restful sanctuary every day. And even though my husband doesn’t care too much about design and decor, I’m happy he has a relaxing space, too! I would highly recommend Modsy to others.

My Modsy Story: How Modsy Helped Me Design a Refuge for Recovery

When Jeff opened a transitional living house, he knew how to help his residents heal—but he needed help designing a safe space where their healing could happen.

Real Customer Story

Homeowner: Jeff M., Recovery Specialist

Location: Plano, TX

Rooms: Living Room, TV Room, Breakfast Area, Dining Area, Sunroom

Their Style: Rustic Warmth

The Backstory

I run Fireside Recovery, a transitional living house for men transitioning from inpatient substance treatment. Our house gives them a place to live; build community; and have the accountability, support, and resources they need on their recovery journey before going back into independent living.

The Design Dilemma

As someone who’s been through the recovery process myself, I know first-hand the important role an environment plays in recovery. Because of that, great interior design was key to this healing space.

This home was a new build, filled with empty rooms, which gave us a blank slate. We wanted to create a space that would make our residents feel comfortable and at home. We had five main community rooms in this home that we wanted to be relaxing for our residents and we also wanted to make all the rooms coordinate and flow together.

I had a hard time visualizing how to fill a whole house with furniture, art, and accessories, and make it look beautiful and cohesive.

To say I was overwhelmed at the thought of tackling this on my own is an understatement. I had a hard time visualizing how to fill a whole house with furniture, art, and accessories, and make it look beautiful and cohesive. Plus, I was so busy getting the business side of Fireside Recovery up and running that I had no time to think about interior design.

The Modsy Moment

I’ve worked with a traditional design service in the past and knew we needed something faster as residents were moving in soon. It was also important that the space was well designed, which I knew I couldn’t do on my own. I had heard about Modsy on Instagram and learned that they could deliver great designs with less turnaround time—so I decided to give them a try.

How Modsy Helped Jeff

Honestly, I could not have done this on my own. In my past experiences of working with interior designers, a lot of time was taken up by shopping together and going to various stores, and it was difficult to work within a budget while getting everything we needed.

I love how Modsy streamlined the interior design process. It saved me so much time and energy. I was able to decorate the whole house without ever leaving my home!

I felt comfortable from the very beginning with Modsy, and I love how Modsy streamlined the interior design process. My designer sent me design ideas in a virtual version of our exact room, and I was able to ask for tweaks and changes until each room was just the way I wanted. Then, I was able to easily shop each of the room designs to get the furniture and decor that I needed. It saved me so much time and energy. I was able to decorate the whole house without ever leaving my home! With Modsy’s help, I was able to focus my energy on Fireside Recovery’s mission and programming, ensuring we’d be ready for guests when we opened.

The Real Results

Modsy’s designers were so patient and accommodating and helped create the recovery home of our dreams. Each space flows into the next and is designed in a way that I never could have imagined on my own. We now have a residential recovery home where our residents can really feel at home. I feel so happy knowing the space is comfortable and welcoming, making it easier for residents to focus on healing and growth.

My Modsy Story: How I Found a Design Worthy of My Remodeled Home

After working hard to complete a big remodel, Jennifer wanted a design that matched her beautiful space. But she struggled to find an interior design that lived up to her expectations.

Customer Story

Homeowner: Jennifer D, Entrepreneur

Location: Troy, NY

Room: Dining Room

Her Style: Contemporary Connoisseur

Customer StoryThe Backstory

My husband and I were going through a lot of firsts when we decided it was time to redecorate our home. Not only had we recently bought our house, but we also completely remodeled the first floor, and we had a baby, all in a year! Once the dust had settled and our whirlwind year was complete, I wanted to decorate the dining room space that I’d worked so hard to remodel.

Customer StoryThe Design Dilemma

After the remodel was complete, I found myself at a loss—I just didn’t know how to find items that lived up to my expectations of what the dining room should be. I was so invested in my home that I’d lost the ability to successfully decorate it on my own. I wanted an expert eye to look at my space and give me ideas on what would work for my space. I knew I’d never settle on a cohesive look alone, and I was so busy with the new baby I just didn’t have time to figure out what I needed.

Customer StoryThe Modsy Moment

I first heard about Modsy through an ad on Hulu. I wasn’t 100% sure what I was signing up for, but the ad intrigued me. I knew I had all this space that I needed decorating, and I was still too busy to use a traditional design service, so I took the leap.

Customer StoryHow Modsy Helped Jennifer

I would never have come up with the design ideas that our Modsy designer gave us. They were everything I wanted but never could have pulled off, dreamed up, or sourced myself. They even took into account the baby and added pieces that are totally childproof! It was these kinds of details that made me feel I could trust Modsy’s expertise to make making my home feel complete.

My Modsy Story: How We Found the Time for Design

This busy couple struggled to balance career, family, and designing a new home. Fortunately, they found help in the nick of time.

Customer Story

Homeowners: Nate and Helen, Software Engineer and Director of Product Strategy

Location: Moraga, CA

Rooms: Living Room and Home Office

Their Style: Reclaimed Visionary

Customer StoryThe Backstory

Shortly after our son was born we decided to move into a new home. He was only 3 weeks old at the time, so it was a challenging move, as I’m sure any new parent can understand. Still, between feedings, diaper changes, and zero sleep, my husband and I were determined to make our first home feel special for ourselves and our baby boy. Of course, making our house feel both cozy and functional became even more critical once shelter in place happened, and we found ourselves home 24/7!

The Design Dilemma

Juggling new parenthood and work meant that we had zero time to do anything, let alone design our new house. We were just so busy with our careers and the baby that we hardly had time to unpack! We were living out of boxes in a space that didn’t feel like ours. My home office was still totally empty and desperately needed help. Meanwhile, our living room felt too impersonal. We needed it to feel relaxed and tranquil to help us handle the stress of our hectic dual role as parents and professionals, especially when the world outside was so intense.

We were just so busy with our careers and the baby that we hardly had time to unpack! We were living out of boxes in a space that didn’t feel like ours.

Customer StoryThe Modsy Moment

I’d heard about Modsy through a friend who also works in tech, and the name stuck with me. After we moved and I realized we desperately needed some remote interior design help with minimal hassle, we decided to sign up and give Modsy a try. We were a little nervous when at first because we’d used another online design service that neither of us really loved. Still, we decided to move forward anyway because we definitely needed the help.

Customer StoryHow Modsy Helped Helen and Nate

When we saw our designs, we were so impressed. All the worries we had from our last online design experience went right out the window. It was honestly so refreshing to see a design neither of us could have imagined. Plus, being able to see our room online in 3D helped so much. The reality is, if we didn’t use Modsy, we would haven’t gotten past the decorating phase of selecting the bare essentials. Their designs really brought the space to life and made us feel safe and confident in making purchases online. This was great because neither of us had the time or ability to go out and purchase home goods between work, the baby, and quarantine.

When we saw our designs, we were so impressed. All the worries we had from our last online design experience went right out the window.

The Real Results

It’s safe to say that after working with Modsy we finally feel at home in our home. Honestly, I know it sounds silly, but that’s the best way to describe it, especially now that our new furniture has arrived. The space is so open and minimal. It feels relaxing and uncomplicated, which is the perfect counterpoint to our sometimes complicated and hectic lives. It makes us happy to spend so much time here and raise our new baby in such a beautiful and serene space.

My Modsy Story: How I Used Modsy to Bring My Family Closer Together

When Anastasia moved in with her boyfriend, she wanted an inviting design to bring both families together in a new space.

Customer Story

Homeowner: Dr. Anastasia M., Endodontist

Location: Bethesda, Maryland

Room:  Living Room and Sunroom

Her Style: Industrial Visionary

The Backstory

My boyfriend and I had been seeing each other for a while when we decided to move in together. It was a big deal because not only did it mean combining both our styles, but we were also combining our families… You see, I have two kids (Lucas, who’s 10 and Michael, who’s 16) from my previous marriage. Meanwhile, Paul (that’s my BF) had been living on his own for quite some time.

My boyfriend and I had been seeing each other for a while when we decided to move in together… which was a big deal because we were also combining our families.

The Design Dilemma

As I mentioned, Paul and I have two distinct styles—I enjoy a slightly eclectic mid-century vibe, and he is a total minimalist. So when it came to interior design, I knew it would be hard to please both of us.

But my design dilemma was more than wanting a beautiful space. I felt it was important to make the transition into our shared house as seamless as possible because I wanted our home to show my sons how well we worked together as a new family.  I wanted our home to be a safe haven where we could grow together as a family, and I knew that we’d need a cohesive design to do that.

my design dilemma was more than wanting a beautiful space.  I wanted our home to be a safe haven where we could grow together as a family

And then to top everything off, both Paul and I are busy professionals who work long hours. Neither of us had the time to scour through a million websites in search of items we’d both like. What we really needed was someone else to do all the searching for us and show us a design we could react to. But how?

The Modsy Moment

I’d heard about Modsy from a friend who used it to design her space and loved it. At first, I was excited but also, I’ll admit, a little dubious. I just had a hard time envisioning how someone could virtually design a space without setting foot in it. It sounded too good to be true. But I also knew a little professional design help would go a long way, and I really wanted my family to feel comfortable in our new house, so I gave it a try.

I knew a little professional design help would go a long way, and I really wanted my family to feel comfortable in our new house, so I gave it a try.

How Modsy Helped Anastasia

Not only was the Modsy experience fun and easy from start to finish, but we were also floored by how great the designs were. Each design our Modsy designer sent us was as thoughtful as it was beautiful—they really brought our styles together in just the way I wanted. I could tell they really cared about making a livable space for my family. It’s beautiful and really does reflect how well our styles (and us!) go together.

The Real Results

We both are so happy! My entire family uses the living room regularly. Paul and I will often listen to music together in the evenings or enjoying a drink together in the space. The kids use it for homework and hanging out too! It’s so nice to have this space that we all enjoy.

I am so glad we used Modsy for our family home is has truly become our serene sanctuary for all of us.

Katie Stevens X Modsy: Designing the Star of “The Bold Type” Katie Stevens’ New Nashville Home

Homeowner: Katie Stevens of “The Bold Type”

Location: Nashville, TN

Room: Living Room + Bedroom

Her Style: Rustic minimalist with an eclectic twist

The Backstory

Katie Stevens stars in Freeform’s The Bold Type and lives in Nashville with her husband, Paul DiGiovanni, the guitarist for Boys Like Girls.

After getting married this past October, the couple bought their first home together. They’d lived together for several years prior to getting married, so they weren’t starting from scratch when it came to combining their lives, home, and possessions. But, for this new space, they wanted to be really intentional about the design and make sure it reflected their combined styles for this new chapter of their lives.

Katie StevensThe Design Dilemma

Katie and her hubby knew they both liked a minimalist aesthetic, free of excess objects and busy designs. They also wanted to go with a more neutral, black and white color palette so they could add pops of color here and there. But that’s where they got stuck.

They weren’t sure how to effortlessly combine masculine and feminine elements. Plus, in past homes, Katie says she had bought a lot of stuff that she didn’t end up loving, and she didn’t want that to happen again. She wanted to avoid a lot of trial and error with decorating, so the space would feel like home more quickly. So she turned to Modsy for some help.

“I know myself — I buy a bunch of things and then don’t really love any of them… I didn’t want to make that mistake with this house.”

Katie StevensKatie StevensThe Modsy Moment

With our style quiz and design services, Katie and Paul were able to drill down to their shared aesthetic and design style, then think through layout options for both their living room and bedroom—the two spaces they wanted to focus on first.

Katie StevensKatie StevensThey also asked our designers to incorporate a couple of special pieces they already owned and wanted to keep, into their designs. Specifically, their sofa and coffee table, which had both been passed down from Paul’s grandmother.

Katie StevensHow Modsy’s Designs Helped Katie

Working with Modsy allowed Katie to see how masculine and feminine style elements could be combined—and gave her and Paul design ideas for their space that they never would have thought of on their own, like layering rugs under the kitchen table for some added texture and warmth.

“It was really important to me that the home be perfect because this is the home that Paul and I are starting our life in.”

Katie StevensKatie says she loves more feminine touches but wanted to make sure those didn’t overwhelm the space. She wanted the design to feel balanced since the home belongs to her and her husband. “We’ve balanced it out through little touches, like the different textures that we have, or the rugs that we chose or the side tables being a little more edgy,” she told PEOPLE magazine. “This beautiful wood table in the corner of our breakfast nook adds a little bit more roughness and masculinity to the room, which I really love.”

Katie StevensThe Real Results

Once Katie and Paul finalized their designs, they implemented the ideas throughout their home, even adding a little breakfast nook to their open living room/kitchen. We designed both that space and their bedroom in a black-and-white color palette that spoke to their minimal, neutral aesthetic—but added some natural wood, leather, and gold touches to warm up the spaces and inject some personality. We also added plenty of pops of natural greenery to make it more approachable!

“We come home every day and we sit on the couch and I look around and there’s nothing that I would want to change.”

Katie StevensKatie StevensKatie says that they love how their space has come together and can see themselves starting a family in this home someday. In fact, there’s one design element that especially has her thinking of the future: “We have this really cute reading nook in the corner and we put a chaise lounge in there,” she explains. “My mom used to have a chaise kind of like that in one of her dressing rooms, and I just remember I used to sit on that when I was little and I would read books with my mom or I would watch her get ready. Now, I look at our little nook and wonder if I’ll be there reading to my kids, and my kids will be watching me.”

Katie StevensShe says that when she and Paul are home together in the evenings, they look around their home and feel like there’s nothing they would change. “It feels like our personalities blended together, and I think that that’s the best thing because it’s symbolic of what is actually happening in our life.”

Our Modsy Story: Designing Jackie and Mike a Living-Dining Room They Both Love

Jackie and Mike wanted the perfect living-dining space for their new home but were struggling to make their dream come to life. See what happened when they decided to try Modsy.

Homeowners: Jackie and Mike, insurance underwriter + travel blogger and a medical sales representative

Location: Atlanta, GA

Room: Living-Dining Room

Their Style: Classic Collector + Rustic Traveler

The Backstory

We got married two and a half years ago and moved straight into a one-bedroom apartment in the city. We knew this was just a temporary space, so we never put too much thought or effort into making it feel like “home.”

When we moved into our new house, things changed—we were so excited about having a place we could call our own and wanted to get everything just right. We wanted our home to be a welcoming space with a cozy style that we’d enjoy for many, many years to come.

The Design Dilemma

Like many couples, we have similar yet different styles, Mike likes more classic traditional pieces and I enjoy the more bohemian style, on top of that, neither of us is a design “guru” by any means so it was challenging finding the right mix. Our living-dining area was a particular challenge for us—we were starting from scratch and it was overwhelming trying to figure out how to begin, where to shop, and how to stick to our budget. It was even harder to find items that fit both of our style needs and felt as cozy as we wanted.

The Modsy Moment

We first heard about Modsy from the blog In Honor Of Design—we loved the guest room that she designed with Modsy so much! We also loved the idea of using a professional design service that could help us create our dream living-dining space virtually. It seemed like the best way to get our new home in order!

How Modsy Helped Jackie and Mike

We were SO excited to see the first round of Modsy designs, and they fully lived up to our expectations. It was cool seeing our exact room designed online in 3D for the first time. Modsy brought our different design dreams together into one cohesive reality! Plus, all the furniture they picked was beautiful and we both loved the selection!

It’s so wonderful that Modsy lets you order from a bunch of different brands. Which helped us find all the right pieces, even a pet-friendly rug for our dog, Hooper! We loved that they took care of things like price matching and shipping coordination. The discount codes were also great for large orders (we saved tons). We’ve purchased quite a few items from our Modsy designs. It’s been a blast putting our room together and seeing it come to life!

The Real Results

We wanted a casual, relaxed vibe that still felt traditional and that is what Modsy gave us! We love how our living-dining room provides both an inviting eating area and a cozy gathering space. It’s warm, welcoming, and comfortable. It’s truly a joy being in our home and living in the designs that Modsy helped create. Plus, It’s perfect for our daily streaming of Good Morning America while making breakfast. We love it and hope to do a few additional rooms in the future!

“It has been so comforting having our living-dining room designed during this unprecedented time.”

It has been so comforting having our living-dining room designed during this unprecedented time. Although it is hard not to go stir-crazy after 14+ days of social distancing, being able to spend time in our newly furnished home brings comfort and peace to both of us. We’re grateful for this laidback and welcoming space to call home in what is otherwise an uncertain and discomforting time in our world.

My Modsy Story: The Quick and Easy Way I Designed My New Home

easy way to design

When they moved to a new place, Kristen and her partner didn’t have time to shop for furniture. Here’s how they found a quick and easy way to design a home they both loved.

Homeowner: Kristen P, Sales Management

Location: Santa Barbara, CA

Room: Living Room and Guest-Turned-Master Bedroom

Her Style: Mod Visionary

The Backstory

Looking for a quick way to get their new home ready for a family visit

My partner and I recently bought a new home and wanted a quick way to design it before our families came to see it. Our previous space (a townhouse on the other side of the city) took us forever to decorate, and I knew we needed a quicker way to get it done this time around.

The Design Dilemma

When finding the time was their greatest design challenge

Unlike some couples, we typically can agree on one design style for our home. The problem for us is actually finding the time to get together and go shopping. We’re busy people, and this made decorating our first dwelling together painstakingly slow. This time around, I knew we needed a faster solution.

To top it off, our new home was built in 1947 and has some odd nooks and crannies. Finding the right layout was a struggle and there were some dark areas we wanted to brighten up, but didn’t know how. All that to say, I was totally overwhelmed and had no clue where to start.

Taking a chance on a low-risk, high-reward solution

I’d never worked with a designer before because I figured it would be too expensive and would take a long time. So when I saw an ad for Modsy on Instagram, I immediately decided to try it.

I work in technology, so I felt very comfortable embracing the online design concept. I also loved the idea that with Modsy it would only take a few weeks to do a mock up of our place and that I could incorporate pieces I already owned and loved.

Not to mention, the cost compared to hiring a designer was so low that I figured I didn’t have much to lose.

How Modsy’s Designs Helped Kristen

It was really just that easy

When I got my designs back, my first thought was “Love, Love, Love!” They nailed my style and the color palette was exactly what I wanted.

My favorite part was the artwork! My designer picked modern and sleek pieces that worked perfectly in the design. They also suggested the best sofa that I have ever owned (of course, I bought it), and even incorporated our love of vinyl records into the design!

I also loved that Modsy utilized the entryway as a place to put a bench. It gives us an awesome area to take our shoes off and hang up our coats and hats as well, and we wouldn’t have thought of it on our own.

The Real Results

Coming back for more

Modsy helped us find the perfect layout for our space, discover awesome furniture that matched our style, and helped us feel confident in making big purchases.

I’ve since purchased most of the items for our rooms! As a repeat customer, it was awesome to see how much the ordering process had improved since my first room. I’m excited to see where it goes from here!

My overall experience was truly a 10 out of 10 – I was blown away by my designs and will definitely be doing another room in the future.
