My Modsy Story: Designing Multiple Rooms From Scratch

Homeowner: Gina S.

Spaces: Multiple Rooms

My Style: Mod Enthusiast

The Design Dilemma

Gina and her husband had enjoyed living in a single-bedroom apartment in New York City for several years. But by early 2020, with two quickly growing toddlers, they knew they’d have to relocate their family to a larger space sooner rather than later. However, the couple couldn’t decide if they wanted to move to a larger apartment in the city or relocate to a home in the suburbs.

Little did they know that the onset of COVID-19 in March of that year would be the deciding factor in what kind of home they’d move to. “Our friend offered her vacation home to us to use until the situation in the city improved,” Gina says. “We quickly realized we loved living in a house together. So, that summer we decided to build a four-bedroom house”

Soon the house was being built and the entire family was excited to be entering a new phase of life together. But for Gina, the responsibility of finding the right layout and decor for several empty rooms went from fun to overwhelming in no time.

“After looking at tons of inspiration images on Pinterest, Instagram, Houzz, and Google, I became extremely overwhelmed with all of the choices. I reached a point of interior design paralysis,” she says.

In particular, Gina worried about creating cohesive designs for the family’s new great room and family room. “Our new house is very open-concept—the lower level and great room were very challenging for me to envision,” Gina says. “I desperately needed help figuring out what furniture to buy and how to lay it all out!”

The Modsy Moment

Once Gina began her design project with Modsy, her interior design anxiety and paralysis were transformed into a new set of feelings. “I experienced a mixture of relief and excitement as I started working with our designer,” Gina says. “I was relieved to utilize an expert’s guidance instead of piecing together the design myself. And it was so exciting to see the designs come to life in 3D. For a few days after I received the first 3D designs, I just pretended I was living inside of them—they looked so real, it was hardly a stretch.”

“Working with Modsy turned a stressful situation into an enjoyable experience,” says Gina. “I loved working with our designer, Caitlin, on three room designs: our open-concept lower level, our main floor great room, and our home office.”

The Real Results

Now that the family has moved into their new home, they are enjoying its designs together. Gina especially is reassured that she can always turn to Modsy for design visualization and expert guidance for whatever design project life throws her way.

“Modsy really helped me get a handle on how each room could be well laid out and functional for my family,” she says. “Everyone is so happy in our space, and friends and family that visit are impressed with the design.”

After such a good experience, Modsy is becoming an ongoing source of help. “We’re already using Modsy again to finish our master bedroom and then kids’ rooms next year!”

My Modsy Story: Recapturing the Magic of Home in a New City

The Backstory

My dog, Sable, and I recently moved from Atlanta to Denver. I was so excited for the two of us to start a new adventure together. But I’d lived in my Atlanta apartment for eight years and knew I’d really miss living in it. It was a corner unit with floor-to-ceiling windows and lots of natural light. I’d created a layout that worked for the space, and it just felt like home.

I knew moving to a new city would be bittersweet, and I wanted to capture the magic I’d created in our last home. So I brought my favorite furniture and decor with us to our new space in Denver. I was hopeful as I packed everything up and headed to the mile-high city.

The Design Dilemma

Soon after arriving in Denver, I realized that, despite my high hopes, none of what I’d brought with me really worked in my new apartment. In fact, most of it hardly even fit in the space. The sudden realization that I’d need to redo the entire space hit me like a ton of bricks.

I know what I like when I see it. Still, I’ve never decorated an entire space from scratch on my own, and I had no idea how to make it feel functional and cohesive. The idea really stressed me out, especially because there are so many other things you have to do when starting life in a new city. I wanted a cozy space that Sable and I could enjoy and where I could entertain new friends. I was eager to have that happen sooner rather than later, so I decided to give online interior design a try.

The Modsy Moment

I feel a little silly saying this, but when I first saw my designs, all I could think was, “Wow!” I was amazed at how accurate the 3D version of my space looked compared to my actual apartment. On top of that, both initial designs were great and gave me a real shot of confidence that the design process would work. My designer even included a little bar area for hosting because I mentioned it was something I liked about my last apartment.

Within a couple of design revisions, my designer and I found the right layout and decor for my space. Seeing it all in a 3D rendering made me sure I could relax, knowing everything I ordered would be the perfect fit once it arrived in my home.

The Real Results

After landing on a design that really resonated with me, I placed my order and was amazed to see my design come together so quickly in real life. Something that would have taken me a very long time to do alone took only a few weeks with Modsy. I feel like my designer was able to upload my personality into a design that I, in turn, could download into my actual apartment!

It feels incredibly good to be only two months into my life in a new city and already have an apartment that Sable and I can call home. It’s one less thing to worry about and a very unexpected (but welcome) thing to feel very happy about.

My Modsy Story: How Working Mom Andrea Brought Her Family’s Dream Living Room to Life

Working mom Andrea wanted to make her new living room a welcoming space but she struggled to find the right furniture (and the time). Read on to learn how Modsy helped her create the cozy living room she and her family wanted.

Homeowner: Andrea W. Account Manager for a tech company

Location: Seattle, WA

Room: Living Room

Her Style: Rustic Warmth

The Backstory

Three years ago my family and I moved into a new house. The large living room had no furniture and the pieces I bought just didn’t work. We never used the living room, because I couldn’t figure out how to make it cozy.

But, it wasn’t until I visited a neighbor’s house that I realized how much I needed a space that my family and I could truly enjoy. She had a beautiful living room with the same floor plan as me but her space felt more finished and inviting. Meanwhile, my living room still felt bleak and lacked the warmth and design it needed to feel like home. I knew deep down I needed a change.

“It wasn’t until I visited a neighbors house that I realized how much I needed a space that my family and I could truly enjoy.”

The Design Dilemma

Even though I knew I needed to change my living room to a space my family would enjoy, I couldn’t find the time. My husband and I both work full-time and have 3 young kids. Between, traveling for work, kiddo activities, and finding time for friends and family… The task of pulling together a room just seemed too daunting.

On top of all that, our living room has two wide entrances and is connected to my kids’ playroom, which made it extra difficult to design. To me, these seemed like two completely different spaces and I didn’t know how to lay-out my furniture to make them work. Honestly, I didn’t even know what size furniture to use or what style would look best. I wasn’t sure about colors or patterns either… All that is to say pulling a new room together seemed like too big of a task for me to tackle without any help.

“Between, work, kiddo activities, and finding time for friends and family… The task of pulling together a room just seemed too daunting. “

The Modsy Moment

Around that time I remember seeing ads for Modsy on Facebook. At first, I was totally skeptical of the service. I thought “It’s a Facebook ad—can you trust it?” It was the customer stories, like this one, that sealed the deal and I decided to give the process a try.

How Modsy Helped Andrea

My designer was so responsive to my requests along the way—each design she put together got me closer to what I wanted. Plus her design knowledge totally put my mind at ease so I didn’t feel stressed about the design process.

The ability to see the different design options helped me understand what I really liked for my space. I had NO idea that I would end up loving the mid-century modern look the best—MIND BLOWN! It only took a few revisions before I was 100% happy with my look.

Modsy Customer StoryThe Real Results

Modsy totally changed my perceptions about using an online service. Their great design work sold me in no time. Plus their shopping process made sure I got the best deals on my furniture.  It’s hard to believe it only took a small investment to save a lot of money. With the savings I made purchasing through Modsy I feel like the service paid for itself.

Now, not only do I LOVE my new living room, every single person that sees it loves it too! It pulls people together. It’s so cozy and comfortable we enjoy it daily!

In the wake of everything that is happening with COVID-19 I keep thinking about our Modsy design. I couldn’t be more grateful for this cozy living room while we take shelter in place. It brings me comfort and joy to have a dedicated space I can use with my family on a daily basis. It’s almost like we created extra square footage in the house! Remember if your space isn’t functional, you won’t use it and right now we need to use every single square foot we can while we’re home daily!

My Modsy Story: How Stacie Went from Tolerating Her Living Room Design to Loving It

Stacie was at a loss when it came to her living room design. See how Modsy helped her turn the cold space into a room that she and her family love.

Homeowner: Stacie C, Attorney

Location: Irving, Texas

Room: Formal Living Room

Style: Classic Modern

The Backstory

My family and I moved to our current house in Irving, Texas around four years ago. Since the day we’d moved in, I had a vision of totally redesigning our formal living room but, in reality, I’ve done absolutely nothing to it.

It is one of the first rooms you see when you walk into the house and, frankly, it’s an embarrassment to me! I really wanted to turn it into a welcoming space where friends and family could spend time together chatting and catching up when visiting our home.

The Design Dilemma

I don’t know how I let so much time pass, but the living room became an eyesore that we tolerated. I was way too busy to dive in and remake the room and I really couldn’t visualize ideas for what to do with it. Every idea I had fell flat and didn’t seem exciting to me. The room felt cold and disconnected from me and the rest of our home. I struggled to find a way to make it feel cozy or to choose pieces that would work together in a cohesive style.

The Modsy Moment

I’ve worked with an interior designer before and I really loved the process so I was open to trying that again for our living room design. So, one day when I was looking for ideas online, I stumbled across Modsy by way of a Google search.

I was immediately excited about the concept of having a 3D rendering of my exact space! Plus, it sounded awesome to have the ability to make changes on the spot so I could see exactly how different items would look. I couldn’t wait to get started!

How Modsy’s Designs Helped Stacie

I was very, very happy with both of the initial designs I got back—but one stood out as absolutely right for me. With just a few tweaks, the option I went with was pretty close to the first design that Francesca, our designer, suggested for me.

I requested a few small revisions and really enjoyed swapping new products into the design myself. It was perfect for me because I wanted some say in the design but also the guidance of an expert designer—that is exactly what Francesca gave me!

One thing, in particular, I really loved, was how she treated the area over the fireplace. I would not have thought of the lovely pieces Modsy suggested for that space, but it absolutely works and is more dramatic and artistic than anything I could have come up with myself.

The Real Results

Designing with Modsy was so easy and convenient and we ended up finding furniture options in our budget and saving tons of time and money. There are very few differences in our actual design from what Francesca recommended—everything is the same except a couple of different pillows!

The room feels hip and young, but there are also plenty of soft, cozy touches. It’s exactly what I wanted and have been dreaming of since we moved here. Thanks, Modsy!

E! News Star Jac Vanek Transforms Her First Solo Apartment Into an Oceanside Oasis

When Jac Vanek, entrepreneur, co-host of the wildly popular Lady Gang podcast (and E! News show) and host of the true crime podcast, The First Degree, made the big move from living with roommates to having her own solo spot, she was ready to create her dream space but didn’t know where to begin.

Upon finding the perfect apartment with a view in Southern California, Jac decided she wanted to start fresh, with a completely new design that reflected this exciting new chapter in her life.

After selling most of her old furniture, Jac had only few treasured pieces left to bring to her new place. She needed new furniture but didn’t want to invest until she was confident about how it would all look in the space.

As Jac told Amanda Lauren at Forbes Magazine, “I’m not just trying to throw a bunch of old books on a shelf. I wanted an earthy-modern vibe with a clean aesthetic. I know I like this chair and that vase, but I don’t know how to arrange them in a room or put something on a bookshelf to make it aesthetically pleasing. That’s where I knew Modsy could help me.”
