Out of all the possibilities for blue bedroom designs, our stylists have a few they like best. Take a peek at our 5 favorite blue bedroom ideas!

charcoal blue bedroom ideas1. Dark Blue Bedroom Ideas

Nothing is as calming as a dark blue bedroom balanced out with soft neutral furniture and decor. The whitewashed woods, upholstered furniture, natural materials, and subtle patterns make the space warm and inviting, just like a bedroom should feel.

The Hue

We chose Charcoal Blue by Sherwin Williams for our cozy bedroom. The hue delivers a serene vibe that is perfect for the room where you want to wind down at the end of the day.

This is Perfect if…

You love neutrals but don’t want a space that’s all white. The rustic contemporary vibe is serene and peaceful but also super stylish. And if you want to create more of a modern farmhouse look, just add a few industrial light features to add an extra pop of contrast.

To ensure your blue bedroom doesn’t start to feel too monotone (unless that’s the vibe you’re after) be sure to introduce some complementary colors. The opposite of blue on the color wheel is orange, so for this bedroom, we incorporated subtle pops of orange in the art, accent furniture, and decor.

But instead of an aggressive traffic cone orange, we opted for more natural oranges, like terracotta, rust and even saffron, helps to keep the look feeling calm and soothing – aka perfect for a bedroom.

The Hue

This pure, bold Downpour Blue color by Benjamin Moore is the perfect backdrop for a bold, eclectic look.

This is Perfect if…

You’re looking for a blue bedroom that’s still a bit bold and eclectic. This idea also plays with natural woods, which have a warmth that nicely compliments the orange hues. The neutrals and natural textures like velvet and ceramic also tone down the bold and create a warm and welcoming vibe, perfect for letting yourself unwind and relax.

light blue bedroom ideas3. Light Blue Bedroom Ideas

This is one of our favorite blue bedroom ideas to create an inspiring and bright vibe that will energize you in the morning and soothe you to sleep at night. Full of natural textures, this blue bedroom has a beach house vibe that also feels slightly eclectic.

The Hue

We chose the light blue paint, Frozen Canal, by Benjamin Moore. It evokes the soothing waters of the sea and is the perfect, cheery complement to natural materials like linen, jute, and rattan.

This is Perfect if…

You love beachy vibes and a preppy-meets-eclectic style! Add a bit more contrast with a few dark blue pillows or decorative accents to give the look more depth.

royal blue bedroom ideas4. Royal Blue Bedroom Ideas

Nothing feels more regal than a deep, velvety blue wall color paired with gold accents. Dark walls create calm and comfort and the white and gold accents pop against the cobalt blue backdrop. The look perfectly balances warm and cool notes.

Be sure to incorporate a few blue accents into the space to tie the wall color in with the rest of the design. We used an end-of-the-bed bench and blue accent pillow to do the trick. Use symmetry to add to the polished, refined look but keep it not so matchy-matchy by varying decor on each side.

The Hue

Using this Loyal Blue color by Sherwin-Williams as the focal point for this blue bedroom idea offers a more sophisticated, formal take on the bedroom.

This is Perfect if…

You love a look that’s elegant and sophisticated but also retains warmth.

teal blue bedroom ideas5. Teal Blue Bedroom Ideas

This look is not for the faint of heart but can instantly turn a bedroom into a cozy retreat. Teal walls set the stage for a bold, eclectic look and then you can balance out the green notes with natural wood furniture.

Feeling extra bold? Add an over-dyed red rug. This helps anchor space and offers a lovely pop of color that compliments the green tone in the walls.

The Hue

We chose Dark Teal by Benjamin Moore to make a bold statement in our teal blue bedroom.

This is Perfect if…

You love a design with a mid-century modern style. This look is the perfect counterpart to the teal color because natural woods are a key element of the design style. It’s also perfect if you love a bold and trendy bedroom that shows some personality and feels like your own private enclave.

My Modsy Story: So Many Rooms, Not Enough Furniture

After moving from the city to the suburbs, Michelle realized that none of her old furniture worked in her new house. She was overwhelmed and needed a design fix, stat.

Homeowner: Michelle L, Business Operations & Strategy Consultant

Location: Fairhope, AL

Room: Multiple Rooms

Her Style: Refined Rustic

The Backstory

My family and I had just moved from the city-center in Atlanta to Fairhope, a small town by the water.

I love playing around with interior design, but with so many new rooms and not enough furniture, I had no idea where to start! The rooms in our new space had completely different layouts and nothing from our previous house worked with the new space. We were starting from square one and it felt like an enormous job.

Michelle’s spaces before

The Design Dilemma

Finding the right layout for each room and coordinating the color schemes was really important to me. I knew I needed the guidance of a designer to feel confident that I was investing in the right items.

“We were starting from square one and it felt like an enormous job.”

To top it off, I was having a really hard time visualizing how everything would come together. I had to think about the master bedroom, dining room, breakfast nook, playroom, AND guest bedroom! I just couldn’t imagine how to fill all of these spaces and get the house to start looking like a home.

The Modsy Moment

I had worked with a few designers before and they were all very different experiences. One provided a book of ideas but then I was left to source the actual items myself, which was really time-consuming. Another designer came to our home but I found them hard to work with and was uncomfortable brainstorming ideas together.

These experiences left me feeling exasperated! So when I saw an ad for Modsy on Instagram I decided to give it a try. I’ll admit I was a little wary of paying for designs without any guarantees. What if I hated them? After the previous unsatisfying experiences with designers I definitely had my guard up but was willing to take a chance on something new.

personal designerHow Modsy’s Designs Helped Michelle

Overall, I was super impressed with Modsy’s service. My first two master bedroom designs were awesome and got me excited for what else they’d come up with. After collaborating so well on that project, I had my personal designer, Isabela, tackle our dining room with her own choices. I was blown away by my first design! With that, Modsy put all my worries to rest.

Working with Isabela was wonderful – she was so helpful and never got frustrated with me. It was the perfect blend of me being hands-on and making suggestions while also getting the professional advice of an expert designer.

“It was the perfect blend of me being hands-on and making suggestions while also getting the professional advice of an expert designer.”

Isabela shared ideas I would never have thought of on my own. For example, the gallery wall and use of black in my master bedroom came from her, and I think this turned out wonderfully. And when I found a different bed frame, she still helped me pick out the perfect fabric color that would work with the overall design.

Modsy personal designerThe Real Results

My dining room looks exactly like the design Isabela created. I’m still working on acquiring unique decor items to finalize the room, but all of the big pieces are there!

I’m also proud of how my master bedroom turned out. It was truly a collaborative effort between Isabela and myself. Her initial design ideas inspired me and got my creativity flowing. From there I was able to play around with my own ideas for the space.

Modsy personal designer

Once pieces were chosen, I loved how easy and seamless the purchasing experience was with Modsy. It was so convenient to do everything online, and I found that they offered great prices and discounts.

“The value Modsy adds through the collaboration with a personal designer far surpasses the cost. Well worth it!”

In the end, working with Modsy helped me feel confident in my decisions – which for me is a major issue when decorating my own home! Isabela was open to any question and always patient. The value Modsy adds through the collaboration with a personal designer far surpasses the cost. Well worth it!

These 7 Rooms Inspired by The Wizard of Oz Prove There’s No Place Like Home

(Photo: Getty Images)

There’s no place like home, right? Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz said it best 80 years ago and we’re celebrating by putting our design chops to the test and creating spaces based off our favorite characters from the film.

That’s right! In the latest installment of our pop culture inspired rooms, we’re exploring rooms inspired by Dorothy, Glinda, Oz, and a few more of our favorite characters. Keep scrolling to explore these Wizard of Oz style rooms and shop the designs of your favorite characters!

dorothy's style wizard of ozDorothy’s Style

Dorothy was a young, gumptious gal. And while she lived a quiet life on her family’s farm in Kansas, at heart she was a dreamer who craved adventure and wanted to explore the world. So when it came to designing her room, we thought that Dorothy’s modern Wizard of Oz style would be a reflection of her roots with an adventurous twist.

What’s in Her Look

“Toto, I’ve got a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.” That’s right, Dorothy. We designed her bedroom with lots of traditional elements that would remind her of home in Kansas but also feel fresh and trendy.

A nod to Dorothy’s iconic blue gingham dress, we – of course – had to incorporate her signature pattern into her home. But Dorothy’s grown up now, so we imagined she’d trade in her dress for something a bit more subtle. We found her the perfect gingham bedspread that she can cozy up under at night and watch the Wizard of Oz in bed.

At the same time, we wanted to reflect Dorothy’s adventurous and feisty spirit (she did save the Munchkins from the Wicked Witch, after all). So we incorporated some modern and trendy moments in her room that pull the space out of the 1930s and into the present. Check out her wishbone desk chair, rattan accents, minimal color palette, and eclectic approach to styling, for starters.

Keep an Eye Out For…

The Ruby Slippers. There’s no way Dorothy would give up a pair of shoes that fabulous. We like to imagine she’d wear them out on special occasions or even as her power heel for job interviews in the big city.

Toto Too. Before Paris Hilton carried her dog around in a purse, Dorothy had Toto in her basket, which we of course included in her room. And like any good dog owner, we knew Dorothy would have a portrait of her faithful pup hanging in her room. Bonus points if you can spot Toto’s doggie bed (you know Dorothy would want him to match her blue and white style).

the scarecrow's style wizard of ozThe Scarecrow’s Style

Dorothy’s first and favorite companion, the Scarecrow always wanted a brain. As such, we knew he’d want to while away the hours in a space that made him feel (and look) smart. To design his room we started with a rustic foundation and pulled in elements reminiscent of an old-world library to give him extra scholarly chops.

the scarecrow's style wizard of oz

the scarecrow's style wizard of oz

What’s in His Look

Since Scarecrow, like Dorothy, was from the countryside, we wanted his bedroom to reflect his pastoral roots. We started with a rustic farmhouse base full of weathered woods, natural textures, and traditional silhouettes. Then, to round out the look, we gave Scarecrow a few more contemporary pieces of art (check out the woven tapestry and cow portraits), that elevate his Wizard of Oz style for 2019.

the Tin Man's style wizard of ozThe Tin Man’s Style

It’s not until the end of the film that the Tin Man, who always wanted a heart, finds out he had one all along. We wanted to translate this character’s hard exterior (and equally soft interior) to his modern day bedroom, and imagined him living in bold industrial style. His 2019 Wizard of Oz style space is a converted garage that combines industrial design with bold pops of color and is where his heart truly shines.

What’s in His Look

The aluminum paneling and industrial elements set the industrial tone while modern, pop art pieces strike a fun and playful vibe. We imagined that our 2019 Tin Man wouldn’t be afraid to wear his heart on his sleeve or show off his inner designer through loud art and bold patterns.

the Tin Man's style wizard of ozKeep an Eye Out For…

The Oil Can. Because even the Tin Man needs to practice self care and keep his joints in working order.

His Ticking Heart Clock. A gift from the Wizard of Oz, we didn’t think the Tin Man would get rid of his prized possession any time soon.

cowardly lion's style wizard of ozThe Cowardly Lion’s Style

The Cowardly Lion joined Dorothy’s journey to Oz in the hopes of gaining some nerve. Fast forward to now and we think his design tastes would be anything but cowardly. Bold, eclectic, and high-contrast, oh my! Those are all words we’d use to describe Lion’s new den, where he isn’t afraid to put his design tastes on full display.

cowardly lion's style wizard of oz

What’s in His Look

We were inspired by the color palette of the sub-saharan African landscape (because Lions are definitely not native to Oz) and incorporated natural textures and materials galore. From his knit seagrass headboard, to the (faux) animal hide rug, and the woven raffia decorative bowls, Lion’s room is all about bringing the outdoors indoors in big, bold ways.

Glinda the good witch's style wizard of ozGlinda The Good Witch’s Style

If our favorite bubble-traveling Good Witch came to Modsy for help designing her bedroom, we’re pretty sure the result would be all things dreamy, feminine, and ephemeral. For Glinda’s space, we were majorly inspired by her pink tulle gown and wanted to infuse her space with a royal vibe (note the throne-like chair). If we only had a wand, we’d be conjuring up Glinda’s Wizard of Oz style at home asap.

What’s in Her Look

Glinda’s modern day Wizard of Oz style bedroom has a slight bohemian vibe, featuring an eclectic mix of furniture, lots of layers, and a rule-breaking layout. The overall color palette is sophisticated and balanced, and you’ll find rich pinks, neutrals, and gold accents galore. We balanced the feminine decor with pops of marble and natural materials because Glinda wasn’t all glitz and glam.

Glinda the good witch's style wizard of ozKeep an Eye Out For…

Bubble-Inspired Decor. While some people might like cars, Glinda’s preferred mode of transportation was by bubble. We wanted to pay homage to that element of her character by incorporating globe-like light fixtures into her room.

Her Crown. Because even a good witch can have a bad hair day.

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain… But definitely do check out the lovely green velvet ones in this Oz-tastic bedroom. Instead of his own personal bedroom, we imagined the great and powerful Wizard of Oz would have designed his own brand of luxury hotels in the capital city, which inspired this room.

What’s in His Look

The design of the city of Oz screamed Art Deco, so we brought that same design aesthetic to life in the Wizard’s space. From the patterned wallpaper, geometric forms, and curvilinear furniture, the Wizard’s room is a modern take on the 1930’s Oz set design.

Of course, the Emerald City’s best hotel would have to pay homage to its colorful namesake. So we designed the Wizard’s room around an emerald green palette. There’s the curtains, the bed frame, and the accent chair… All of which add up to a room that’s dripping in luxury. It’s truly a horse of a different color!

Keep an Eye Out For…

The Yellow Brick Road. Ok, it’s really terrazzo. But we thought that would be a design trend the great and powerful Oz would get behind. When subway tile finally felt overdone, we think he would have updated his hotel to feature the new trendy material.

the Wicked Witch's style wizard of ozThe Wicked Witch of the West’s Style

You might say she’s evil, or you might say she’s just misunderstood (we’ve seen Wicked once or twice). Either way, it’s hard not to love a villain with style, and the Wicked Witch has plenty of it. Dark and mysterious, we wanted her room to be a place where she could retreat from the world. Sometimes we all need a little alone time.

What’s in Her Look

Her look was inspired by her signature color palette of black and green and embodies a traditional yet chic style. To bring it to life, we paired traditional foundation pieces with luxe materials, like green velvet and black lacquer.

We’re definitely melting – er, drooling – over her four-poster bed frame, and we imagined the apothecary-inspired work area would be her go-to spot for stalking Dorothy in her crystal ball.

the Wicked Witch's style wizard of ozKeep an Eye Out For…

The Flying Monkeys. Her evil cronies would never be far away. See if you can spot a few outside her window enjoying a midnight flight.

Her Striped Bedspread. A nod to her deceased sister, the Wicked Witch of the East, we incorporated the pattern of her signature tights into her space. We think it looks much better as a bedspread than crushed under a house.

The Ruby Slippers. Because we thought it was time to end this age-old feud and share the ruby slipper love. There are enough awesome shoes to go around, ok?

1. Layered Bedding

No magic formula here. You can always count on good, comfy bedding as a surefire way to brighten your bedroom and make it look thoughtfully pulled together. A bed with just two standard pillows can look a bit sparse and empty, so pile on lots of colorful and textured pillows, make sure you have soft sheets and a fluffy duvet, and top it all off with a throw blanket.

2. A Stylish Bed Frame

If there’s a piece of furniture that signifies a grown-up bedroom, it’s a stylish headboard or bed frame. Just like nice bedding, a solid bed frame with a fun headboard adds instant personality and polish. Plus, it provides added support for leaning back with a good book in bed.

3. A Well-Styled Nightstand

Nightstands are about as essential as a bed in your bedroom. Because, when you’re lying in bed, you need a surface nearby to set down your phone and a glass of water. The perfect nightstand has both a well-styled surface and some space for bed-side storage—as well as being the right height in comparison to your bed. The type of nightstand and amount of storage space you opt for can depend on your needs and personal style. But when it comes to styling the surface, limit yourself to just a few bedroom essentials to keep it from getting cluttered—like an alarm clock, a lamp, and maybe a framed photo and a plant for a personal touch!

4. A Comfy Rug

A bedroom without a rug can feel cold and uninviting. Make sure to choose a rug that adds color, texture, or pattern to your bedroom from the ground up. This will help tie the room together and muffle sounds and the pitter-patter of footsteps. The best part? You’ll always step out of bed onto something soft and cozy. On a practical level, make sure you find the right size of rug for your space, since different bed sizes and room dimensions call for different sizes of rugs.

5. Good Curtains

While we love a bedroom that gets lots of natural light, we appreciate the privacy that curtains provide for our most intimate space in the home. Choose curtains that have subtle texture and can filter in sunlight when you need an afternoon nap. For a more vibrant approach, skip the neutrals and pick curtains that pull in colors from your rug, pillows, and other furnishings. Light sleeper? Go for blackout curtains.

6. Ample Lighting

All rooms benefit from having ample, layered lighting, but in a bedroom having the right lighting is especially important. Ensure there’s more than one light source in your space. Think an overhead lamp, a floor lamp in a corner, table lamps on your bedside tables, and even an extra task light on the dresser. This bedroom essential will create a layered lighting effect that will elevate as well as cozy up your space.

7. Storage Dresser

And speaking of bedroom storage, it might seem like a no-brainer, but plenty of enclosed storage is a bedroom must. Not only does this help minimize clutter, dressers, and nightstands make for additional surfaces for corralling everyday items, such as keys, wallets, sunglasses, books, and knick-knacks.

It might seem like a no-brainer, but plenty of enclosed storage is a bedroom must. The best way to give yourself some extra storage is with a dresser or two. (Wondering what style of dresser to choose? That one is totally up to you.) Whatever style and shape, dressers help keep your bedroom feeling zen by minimizing clutter and keeping you organized. But they also offer an extra surface for corralling everyday items such as keys and wallets or displaying special books and knick-knacks.

Want some extra storage space in your bedroom? Consider an armoire, clothing racks, floating shelves, baskets, or bookcases. These pieces are all great for adding extra bedroom storage. You can choose your storage options based on the size of your bedroom and your personal style.

8. A Full-Length Statement Mirror

Let’s face it: a mirror, be it a full-length version or a large one that hangs above a dresser, is a practical and stylish addition to any bedroom. It establishes your bedroom as a place to get ready. It also adds a touch of glamour and makes your room feel more open and airy by bouncing light around the space. They also help visually open up the room by reflecting light, making even small bedrooms seem more open and airy!

9. A Bench at the Foot of the Bed

Tuck in an extra place to sit beyond your bed to increase the function of your bedroom. A bench at the end of your bed offers a stylish place to plop bags, take off/put on shoes, and –if you’re a germaphobe – also helps keep street clothes away from your sleeping space. The end-of-bed bench can also serve as a luggage rack if you’re often on the go. If you’re tight on storage, opt for a bench with cubbies or one with a seat top that flips open with a big compartment for holding extra pillows and blankets.

10. A Space for Your Favorite Activities

Since your bedroom is the most personal space in your home, make sure you create some room for the things you love most. An aspiring yogi? Create a yoga corner or meditation zone. Working on the next great American novel or love to unwind with a craft? Tuck in a desk for an inspiring workspace in your bedroom. Have a big reading goal for the year? Then a reading nook is a must. Whatever makes your heart sing, make space for it!

11. Plants or Flowers

If you haven’t heard the news, then hear it now: plants make people happy! So, bring some calm, cheery vibes into your bedroom with a few green friends. These can be fresh blooms, low-maintenance succulents, your favorite potted plants—or, go faux if you don’t have a green thumb! Short of floor space? Go for a hanging plant!

12. Personal Decor

Make the space feel truly you by showcasing bold accents and items that carry meaning for you. This is a fun way to add more personality to your room and warm up with a sense of familiar comfort. Think favorite books and perfume bottles, pretty ceramics you love and vases with fresh flowers, beautiful trays and jewelry holders. These are all perfect objects you can display on your dresser to play up a cozy, lived-in vibe.

13. Art You Love

Just like how all the little objects are an intimate expression of your personal style, so is some eye-catching art on your bedroom walls. Hanging a favorite painting or colorful abstract print in the bedroom is a great way to add depth and inject color into your personal haven. Hang a few pieces to instantly bring your bedroom walls to life. It can be a painting or print by your favorite artist, photos from your travels, an eclectic gallery wall, or you could even frame your kiddo’s art! Whatever you choose, wall art is a great way to add depth and inject some color into your room, bringing your bedroom walls to life.

We get it. Even within modern bedroom designs, there can be so many different ‘style’ approaches and variations to the look and feel. Modern bedroom designThe Look: Pure Mid-Century Modern Warmth

If you’re drawn to mid-century style, take an all-in approach with your bedroom furnishings. Bring in a matching bed, nightstand, and bench ensemble that plays up the warm wood tones, tapered legs, and streamlined proportions that underscore mid-century designs.

Shop This Room

To round out the warm woods, offset your key pieces with graphic pops of soft colors, simple geometric shapes, and frill-free silhouettes, like brass-based table lamps and a sputnik pendant light.

Perfect for…

Design lovers who are after a simple and cozy bedroom design that has a cohesive look and retains some classic notes. Also if you’re want to dabble in modern designs and need a look that’s easy to pull together.

The Look: Modern Industrial

If you want a modern bedroom design that feels warm but still has a bit of edge, this layered look is for you. Think of it as the perfect mix of rustic, industrial, and mid-century styles, with its assemblage of sleek furnishings, cozy woods, and graphic patterned textiles.

Shop This Room

To keep the modern industrial vibe, keep your palette to gray tones in varying shades and only one or two bright hits of color. The result is a space that feels cool, collected, and purposefully contrasted.

Perfect for…

A couple in seek of a bedroom design that’s versatile and gender neutral. This is a great look that’s also easy to build on, so you can add and rearrange as seasons and needs change – that’s what makes this style feel truly modern.

Modern bedroom designThe Look: Modern Bohemian

Another way to describe this style is modern eclectic – and it’s all about the colorful and playful accents. If you like modern but not when it feels too staid or spare, the modern bohemian look might just be your perfect solution. Rather than going fully streamlined, bright pillows, rugs, and accents take center stage to offset the midcentury-inspired foundation pieces.

Shop This Room

The key is starting with a strong palette (we chose blues and pinks here), but let it guide you as you layer textiles and art that emphasize your color story. It all lends a retro and global look that complements the modern furniture staple pieces.

Perfect for…

Collectors and vintage lovers who want to bring a little character and quirkiness to their bedroom space without it feeling too frenzied to sleep in. If you’re after a modern yet curated look, this style will check all your boxes.

Modern industrial bedroom designThe Look: Modern Minimal

Less is more is your motto when it comes to your bedroom style. While this look may seem pretty straightforward, the trick is to make sure your space doesn’t feel flat and cold. The solve? Bring in lots of yummy textures, such as plush geometric pillows, a fringed rug, graphic black-and-white art to bring depth to an otherwise strictly functional-feeling space.

Shop This Room

One way to instantly liven up the modern minimal bedroom? Layer in lush greenery big and small. All that plant life will add vibrant texture and serve as bright focal points.

Perfect for…

Staunch minimalists who like a sleek, simple space as much as they love a cozy one. This is ideal if you’re focused on function first but still want to add warmth without adding lots of color and wood pieces.

Modern bedroom designThe Look: Modern Rustic

Probably our most popular style, the modern rustic look strikes that perfect balance of comfort and elegance. There’s an organic element to the look and feel of modern rustic bedroom, where furniture with mid-century undertones and accents with casual appeal are layered with welcoming effect.

Shop This Room

A good place to start is an upholstered headboard, a soft neutral rug, and a comfortable bench. Matching wooden nightstands and cozy pillow sets will help to complete the clean-lined, rustic vibe.

Perfect for…

Fans of the casual California look. It’s all about big comfort and ease without sacrificing elevated style when it comes to a modern rustic bedroom.

Is an Upholstered Bed Right for You?

upholstered bedWhen it comes to investment pieces for your home, few get as personal as your bed. Finding a bed that suits your style and needs is important, given it’s where you start and end your days.

If you are looking for a new place to catch some z’s, you might be considering an upholstered bed. And while some people love how they provide major comfort and style, others find them to be high-maintenance and difficult to keep clean and dust-free.

So, is an upholstered bed right for you? Read on to learn more about this luxurious piece and why it may or may not be right for you.

Upholstered Bed

Upholstered Bed Pros and Cons

Does it fit into your sleep routine?

Do you watch TV or read in bed at night? If so, upholstered beds with a tall headboard are perfectly designed to provide you with a cushioned support and cultivate a cozy feeling in your bedroom.

Conversely, if your bedroom tends to get warm and humid in the evenings, a frame covered in absorbent fabric may not be the best option. Your bed is meant to add comfort to your daily life, so make sure it suits your sleep routine and lifestyle.

Are you up for the upkeep?

Because an upholstered bed is covered in fabric, dents and impressions can develop overtime with use. It’s recommended that you clean an upholstered bed with a handheld vacuum once a week to keep dust at bay.

If you’re one to read in bed and lean against your headboard daily, you may also have to deal with potential grease spots. One solution is to spot clean on a regular basis, but if that sounds like too much maintenance for you, consider opting for a wood or metal bed frame instead.

Do you have cats or dogs or both?

An upholstered bed may not be the best option for you pet owners out there. Hair from your furry friends will likely get stuck on the fabric, which may also tear from clawing. If you’re a proud pet owner set on an upholstered bed, pick a microfiber option as it’s easiest to clean.

Upholstered bedAre you allergic to dust?

You may want to consider the upholstered bed more carefully. While the standard fabric options are usually more cost-effective, if left unattended they are susceptible to dust mites, which can irritate adults and children with allergies. Keep this in mind especially if you’re considering an upholstered bed for a child’s room.

If you’re set on one, consider other materials such as leather, a tightly woven textile, or a “performance” fabric option. These will help keep dust from penetrating into the frame, while also giving you the look you want.

Do you have a small space?

While upholstered beds come in a range of sizes, their thick padding tends to take up more square footage than a slender wood or metal frame. For a small bedroom, an upholstered bed could result in a tight space with narrow walkways. If you must, choose one in white or soft gray to minimize the visual impact.

Are you looking for some color?

Upholstered beds come in hues that are highly versatile, such as gray, cream, or blue. These colors pair beautifully with a wide range of accents, metals, and finishes. These palettes are also ideal if you’re going for a calming bedroom atmosphere that’s not void of color.

Of course, upholstered beds are offered in more vibrant fabric colors as well if you’re one for a bold look. Either way, these can ultimately function like a piece of art that can help add color to your walls as well as soften the linear angles of your space.

Do you want to make a statement?

Without a doubt, an upholstered bed is guaranteed to be the most captivating centerpiece in any bedroom. From platform styles, to swooping sleigh beds, to winged headboards, an upholstered bed in any bed frame style is guaranteed to make your room feel tailored and sophisticated.
